Questions

Is it really free?: Yes. No account, no watermark, no page limit.
Do you keep my document?: No. The file is deleted from the server the moment the conversion ends — no copies are kept. Details are on the privacy page.
Is the text in the PDF still text?: Yes. LibreOffice does the conversion, so the text stays selectable, searchable and sharp at any zoom — it is not a picture of your document.
Can it handle .doc (the old format)?: Not yet — only .docx. Open the file in Word, choose “Save as”, pick .docx, and upload that.
Is there a size limit?: Up to 20 MB per file. Long documents are fine: a few hundred pages normally convert in under 20 seconds. A document that takes more than 45 seconds is cancelled, which in practice only happens with unusually complex files.
Will the layout be exact?: Close for ordinary documents, but not guaranteed. The server has metric-compatible stand-ins for Calibri and Cambria, so plain reports, résumés and contracts keep their page count and line breaks. Documents that rely on multi-column sections, floating images or fonts we do not have will shift — multi-column sections in particular often come out wrong. Always open the PDF before you send it on.
What happens to Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts?: They are substituted, not taken from your machine: serif faces (SimSun, KaiTi, FangSong) map to Noto Serif CJK, sans faces (SimHei, Microsoft YaHei, DengXian, PingFang) to Noto Sans CJK. Characters are correct and stay searchable, but the exact typeface will not be the one you chose.
